Diagnoses like substance use disorder (SUD) are fraught with challenges. When an individual is seeking recovery from SUD, they may be overwhelmed by the number of treatment options available. Not only is the decision to participate in a treatment program difficult, but having too many options can deter people from seeking treatment altogether.  Fortunately, individualized treatment can minimize this burden. It allows a treatment team and client to work together to choose the options that are best suited to the client.

Understanding Individualized Treatment

Addiction treatment has come a long way in the last several decades. One of the most important changes that have been made is replacing directive treatment approaches with client-centered treatment approaches. Rather than having a therapist authoritatively direct and guide a client to sobriety and recovery, client-centered approaches emphasize the power of collaboration between a client and therapist. Individualized treatment is fostered by a client-centered philosophy.

There are many reasons why addiction treatment has shifted toward client-centered treatment. For example, research has shown that no two people experience addiction, SUD, or other mental health disorders in exactly the same way. This is because every person has a unique chemical makeup of their brain and body. It is also because every person is uniquely exposed to risk factors for these conditions through their life experiences and environment.

Likewise, there is no one-size-fits-all approach to addiction treatment. Every person must find what treatment modalities, interventions, and relapse prevention tools work the best for them to sustain lasting sobriety. For example, many people who seek recovery from addiction may also have a co-occurring mental health disorder. Therefore, for effective recovery, their treatment plans must incorporate treatments for navigating both conditions simultaneously.

Individualized Treatment at Pathways Recovery

We at Pathways Recovery Center can guide clients through the variety of treatment programs and services for addiction recovery we offer. Pathways Recovery strives to provide individualized treatment to all of our clients. In fact, we keep our recovery groups small so that we can ensure a truly individualized approach. This sets us apart from other facilities and programs.

The term “individualized treatment” is becoming more popular in the realm of addiction treatment. As every treatment center utilizes this term differently, people may wonder what individualized treatment is like at Pathways Recovery. In short, we are dedicated to putting our client's needs and recovery goals at the forefront of their treatment plan. We cater our programs and services to fit each client's individualized needs throughout the entire treatment and recovery process.

Variety of Treatment Options

Pathways Recover Center offers both supervised detox and residential treatment program options. Additionally, we offer a variety of treatment services to individualize our client care.

Some of the specific services we offer include:

Beyond Individualized Treatment

The variety of treatment options we offer and our individualized treatment guidance are only the beginning of what sets Pathways Recovery apart. Our use of the biopsychosocial model, unconditional positive regard, and social support also make treatment at Pathways uniquely effective.

The Biopsychosocial Model

Upon arrival at our facility, clients will undergo an evaluation to address their personal needs and goals for treatment. We utilize biopsychosocial assessments to pinpoint specific problem areas for clients. Additionally, we consider how certain problems may influence others.

The biopsychosocial model identifies three components that affect a client's well-being:

  • Biological factors: genetics, gender, physical health, etc.
  • Psychological factors: personality, coping mechanisms, self-esteem, memories, etc.
  • Social factors: socioeconomic status, education, family background, etc.

Ceasing substance abuse is not sufficient for an individual to maintain overall wellness. Individualized treatment helps bring attention to all factors that must be addressed and overcome throughout the recovery process.

This not only ensures lasting sobriety but also lasting wellness for years to come. We believe that using the holistic biopsychosocial model in treatment can influence a well-rounded healing and recovery journey.

Unconditional Positive Regard

Another element of treatment that sets Pathways apart from other facilities is our use of unconditional positive regard for clients. Clients can expect to feel validated, supported, and accepted throughout their treatment journey at Pathways.

Staff members are dedicated to providing a compassionate and comfortable atmosphere for clients. This is especially important when discussing challenging topics such as trauma.

Unconditional positive regard at Pathways means that there are no conditions for acceptance or empathy for our clients. Clients can rest assured, knowing that they will feel respected both as clients needing care and as human beings deserving of respect.

Our staff knows that the path of recovery from substance abuse is never easy. After all, many of us have personal experiences of overcoming addiction ourselves. Additionally, we believe that our clients are always doing the best that they can given the resources, knowledge, and skills that they have. We seek to increase their access to resources, knowledge, and skills that will help them improve their lives.

Social Support

Clients at Pathways Recovery Center thrive on the social support provided by both professionals and peers. Throughout treatment, clients have the opportunity to build lasting connections with other peers working to establish their sobriety.

Group therapy interventions will allow individuals to understand that they are not alone in their experiences. By listening to new perspectives and the experiences of others, clients can gain valuable insight into their own experiences. Some of the topics covered in group counseling sessions include:

  • Relapse prevention
  • Seeking safety
  • Anger management
  • Grief and loss

The treatment philosophy at Pathways Recovery Center is built on client-centered, individualized addiction treatment. No two people experience addiction the same way. Likewise, there is no one-size-fits-all for addiction recovery. Individualized treatment tailors treatment programs and services to fit a client's unique needs and recovery goals. We at Pathways are dedicated to providing a healing environment that is both compassionate and comfortable for clients working to establish their sobriety. We have seen the incredible value that individualized treatment can have on the treatment and recovery journey from addiction and substance use disorder.
